40 LOCAL MUSICIANS FROM 36 DIFFERENT BANDS MIX UP TO FORM EIGHT NEW GROUPS FOR ONE NIGHT ONLY AT ROCK POTLUCK 2007
Columbus, OH (December 3, 2007) In what is quickly becoming one of the more highly-anticipated local music events of the holiday season, Saturday, January 12th will mark the 3rd Annual Rock Potluck featuring the usual mish-mash of the cities best and brightest musicians, as well as, a holiday potluck dinner and the introduction of a brand new improvisational art element to the proceedings.
By now you probably know the concept, but just in case here is the outline: A large handful of personally invited musicians meet at noon on the day of the Rock Potluck (again it's Saturday, December 15th!). These volunteers are organized into eight groups at random. The eight separate groups are then released to practice at different locations throughout the day. The musicians have nine hours to fashion a band name and three songs (two originals and one cover). The groups will then perform what they have created in front of a live audience that evening in the gymnasium of the historic Milo Arts Building (located at 617 East 3rd Avenue Columbus, Ohio 43201).
The musicians selected for this event are chosen from a wide variety of groups in the Columbus, OH area in an attempt to represent a unique mix of personalities and musical styles. The event intends to bring together many facets of a music community that may seem incompatible, as well as artists whose interests may conflict or never otherwise cross paths. The challenge for these musicians is to work together to create a unified group project that still contains the personal styles of each of the participants.
This year we're also thrilled to announce that 15 local visual artists have signed on to create a collaborative art show with a process that will mirror the music concept. These artists will meet the day of the event and create a completely unique installation and they'll do it in a mere five hours! It will be on exhibit throughout the evening.
Doors will open at 7:00 p.m. for food and socializing (attendees are urged to bring a dish to share, but it is not mandatory) with music beginning at 9:00 p.m. SHARP!
Tickets for this charity event can be purchased at the door on the night of the show for only $3 (21+) or $5 (18-20). Beer will be provided at a nominal cost for those of a legal drinking age.
Proceeds from the Rock Potluck will benefit the Milo Arts Community, StandUp For Kids and Ohio Culture Works.
